Heart-based Coaching®

Heart-based Coaching is a social emotional learning tool for educators to build trust and develop growth in students through reinforcing appropriate questioning techniques.This strategy will give teachers a variety of ways to make meaningful connections with their students. It also emphasizes the importance of listening through assessing your whole body and being mindful of what is happening at the present moment. As facilitators, educators demonstrate the impact of leading students to take ownership of their own education. The shift in ownership is transformational for both students and teachers.

The Teacher’s Wheel proved to be an effective reflection tool in bouts of distress over classroom issues. Carlyne, my Heart-based Coach (HBC), acted as a sounding board and referred to the wheel I filled out; I was able to refer back to why I pursued the teaching profession and pinpoint the source of my distress. I also had the ability to practice referring to this wheel with other participants, and this will help me in the future when I have students perform their quarterly goal-setting. This wheel pertains to Heart-Based Coaching, which is an important model for teachers to fine-tune their ability to empathetically communicate with their students and colleagues.
